LTT (Land Transaction Tax)
Wales's purchase tax, administered by the Welsh Revenue Authority. Starts at £225,000 — higher entry point than SDLT — and rates step up steeply.
In simple terms
Welsh stamp duty.
Example
£300,000 main residence in Cardiff: 0% to £225k + 6% on £75k = £4,500.
If you're buying
First-time-buyer relief doesn't exist in Wales — the higher nil-rate band already gives most FTBs a break.
If you're selling
Welsh thresholds matter when pricing — the £225k and £400k cliffs cluster a lot of offers.
